If a foreign national is separated from a marriage with a Japanese person by death or divorce, then their Spouse or Child of Japanese National residency status will continue until the expiration date, but it cannot be renewed after that. Make certain to notify the Immigration Services Agency of Japan within 14 days of being separated by death or divorce.
